Legal Matter Intake Platform with AI Document Processing
A 25-year partnership building secure matter intake, approval workflows and document processing for one of the world's largest law firms, across 40+ modules and multiple jurisdictions.
Major International Law Firm, a long-running platform partnership.
One of the world's largest international law firms needed a single platform for client matter intake, internal workflows and document handling across offices in multiple jurisdictions. Teams were working across fragmented tools, re-entering the same client data and running approvals through inconsistent chains that broke down under peak deal volume.
Axesscom put a dedicated engineering team in place and built the core modules for secure legal operations, workflow routing and document management. What started as a focused build became a partnership of more than 25 years: new practice areas, cloud migration on Azure, and, recently, document intelligence with full audit trails.
The stack runs on .NET and Azure, with AI used for classification, metadata extraction and search, not as a black box. Lawyers review every AI suggestion before it enters the record. Role-based access, ethical walls and immutable logs are built into the architecture, not added later.
Key highlights
- Same Axesscom team embedded with the client for 25+ years
- 40+ live modules: intake, CRM, workflows, documents
- Document AI added without changing established compliance sign-off
- 99.9% uptime target for global users
What was getting in the way.
Before the platform was modernized, manual processes and fragmented tools were slowing down work and creating compliance risk.
New matters took too long to open because intake was mostly manual
The same client appeared under different records in different offices
Partner and compliance approvals crossed practice groups, regions and time zones
Thousands of documents needed hand-labeling and metadata entry
Handoffs between offices lacked a consistent process
Audit trails, data residency rules and ethical walls had to be enforceable in software
M&A peaks required opening many new matters in a short window
Older integrations could not handle rising matter volume
One platform, built to last.
Axesscom delivered modular capabilities for each problem area, with clear metrics to track progress.
AI where it actually helps.
AI supports lawyers; it does not replace them. When documents are uploaded, the backend runs OCR, embeddings and LLM classification, then surfaces suggested categories, extracted fields and risk keywords. Nothing is written to the matter record until a lawyer approves it.
Every suggestion carries a confidence score, model version and reviewer decision in the audit log. Compliance teams can trace any automated recommendation to its source. That human-in-the-loop model was a requirement for adoption, not an afterthought.
How the platform is structured.
Years of delivery, not one-off projects.
From the first modules through cloud migration and AI, the platform grew in planned phases.
Foundation & Core Platform
Dedicated Axesscom team formed. First matter intake and client management modules went live for core practice groups.
Module Expansion
Platform reached 20+ modules: workflows, approvals and document management rolled out to more offices.
Cloud Migration
Infrastructure moved to Azure for disaster recovery and consistent access for distributed teams.
Workflow Modernization
Approval engine rebuilt for multi-jurisdiction routing. APIs opened for adjacent legal tech.
AI Integration
Document intelligence added: classification, metadata extraction, semantic search and risk keywords, all logged.
Continuous Evolution
40+ modules in production. Platform remains the backbone for global legal operations.

Operational Improvements
We've worked with Axesscom for over twenty-five years. They know our compliance rules, they show up when we add offices, and when we asked for document AI they built it so partners still sign off on everything. That's why we kept the partnership.
